Web Design
Newspaper
I am an online journalist for Stripes, and I utilize a combination of traditional and new media journalism techniques. Any given project could entail me writing a story, capturing and editing audio, photos or video, coding a feature or standalone site or doing whatever else necessary to tell the story best to our readers.
On a daily basis, I make sure all of our printed content is on the Web site, and where stories get placed on the Web site through our content management system. I also post breaking news.
I also work on improving the site itself and design new features for www.stripes.com.
I offer guidance and training to other staff members because of my varied skills and training.
I am currently learning new programming languages so I can design more dynamic features.
Kenston is widely recognized for having one of the best educational Web sites in the country. In 2000 it was named the "Cool School of the Year" by Education World and Cisco for having the best k-12 site in the country.
You would have thought we would have rested on our laurels. Nope. The next year we set out to totally redesign the site. I was part of that team and had a big part in the design of the site and many of the features. I later became Web master. The site receives over 30,000 unique hits a day, which is quite amazing considering little more than 1,000 kids attend the school.
Musician
Lisa is a lawyer by day, musician by night.
She had recently created an album and wanted a better way to distribute it. I designed the site, created the features set and created all the audio clips. From her site, fans can preview every track, order her CD, read lyrics and contact Lisa.
Church
St. Gerard Majella is a Catholic Church in Missouri. Every year the church has Fallfest, a carnival of sorts. In order to help plan and publicize the event better, SGM wanted a Web site where people could contact different members of the SGM staff, download forms, view photos from past events and learn about each event in the upcoming Fallfest.
I designed the site, the photo gallery and performed photo editing for the project. In addition, I was the project leader, serving as a liaison between my team and SGM.
Newspaper
I created special features for Lehigh's student newspaper, The Brown and White, while I was an editor. I was in charge of our weekly online special feature for football during my time as associate editor online. We had never done an online special feature for football before then. I conceptualized the feature, designed it in Photoshop and created and maintained it in Dreamweaver.
The Brown and White doesn't have a lot of print room for stories. Our weekly special feature alleviated this problem. We were able to bring four new football features a week out because of our online special feature. Several features just weren't possible in print, like the photo gallery or the Bergen Tracker, which tracked star player Adam Bergen's season.
The second image is a special feature for 140th football meeting of Lehigh and Lafayette. It contains the recap and post-game analysis for the game the week before and many other features looking towards the big game. I designed and implemented the Web feature and brain stormed most of the stories, graphics and features.
